Collaborating for a Sustainable Future

Jahangirnagar University contributes to SDG 17 through academic cooperation, government engagement, development-related research, and knowledge sharing. Its documented partnerships and educational activities provide opportunities to connect university expertise with wider social, environmental, and economic priorities.

International Academic Partnerships

Jahangirnagar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lincoln University College, Malaysia, on 17 August 2025. The agreement provides a framework for joint education and research, faculty and student exchanges, academic publications, training workshops, professional certification, and internships. These planned activities support international knowledge exchange and institutional capacity-building.

Collaboration with Government Institutions

On 21 June 2026, Jahangirnagar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bangladesh’s Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks under the Ministry of Industries. This agreement demonstrates a formal connection between the university and a government institution responsible for intellectual property.

Development Partnerships and Student Skills

The Students Counselling and Guidance Centre publishes information on UNDP’s Futurenation scholarship opportunities and skills development training for Jahangirnagar University students. These resources connect students with opportunities relevant to employability and professional development.

Engagement in Sustainability Dialogue

Published faculty records document participation in development-related workshops and dialogues. Examples include a workshop with UNDP Bangladesh on environmental-economic accounting, the blue economy, and the poverty–environment relationship, alongside engagements concerning urban environmental management and climate development. These activities illustrate faculty contributions to exchanges between academia and development stakeholders.

Research Relevant to Sustainable Development

Jahangirnagar University’s Department of Environmental Sciences identifies sustainability and the safety of the Earth as central foundations of its education and research. Its academic work provides knowledge relevant to environmental management and sustainable development.

The Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS also conducts research, provides skills development training, and facilitates knowledge sharing on socioeconomic and ecological challenges associated with disasters and climate change. These activities offer a foundation for interdisciplinary cooperation.

Publishing and Sharing Knowledge

Jahangirnagar University’s Institutional Repository collects, preserves, and distributes academic materials, including theses and research project reports. By making university knowledge accessible beyond individual departments, the repository supports scholarly communication and provides resources for further research and collaboration.

Sustainability Education

Published teaching information identifies courses such as Sustainable Development, Climate Resilient Development, and Environmental Science and Sustainability. These examples demonstrate sustainability-related learning within particular programmes.

Training and Applied Knowledge Exchange

The university has reported a workshop on “Building a Complete Agricultural Block Model Using GIS and Remote Sensing.” Such training connects technical knowledge with agricultural mapping and planning, illustrating how university expertise can support practical development challenges.
