01

Climate Research and Environmental Monitoring

The Department of Environmental Sciences identifies climate change, environmental modelling and monitoring, renewable energy, water resources management, and climate adaptation and mitigation among its research areas. These activities provide a foundation for understanding climate risks and evaluating possible responses.

02

Climate Education

Published faculty teaching information includes Climate Resilient Development, Global Climate Change and Environment, and Environmental Science and Sustainability. These subjects help students develop knowledge relevant to climate impacts, adaptation, and sustainable development.

03

Geospatial Research and Capacity-Building

The Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS provides skills development training, conducts research, and facilitates knowledge sharing. Its work examines socioeconomic and ecological challenges arising from disasters and climate change. Geospatial analysis offers tools for understanding environmental change and informing decisions about vulnerable areas.

04

Research on Community Adaptation

University faculty research addresses indigenous adaptation practices and the use of local knowledge in responding to climate change. Published work includes research on indigenous knowledge and climate responses in Bangladesh’s coastal islands. These studies contribute to understanding locally appropriate adaptation approaches.

05

Climate Governance and Policy-Relevant Engagement

Published faculty information documents engagement in climate development and urban environmental management dialogues. Research also examines community-based organisations in climate governance. These activities connect academic expertise with discussions about institutions, participation, and development planning.

06

Disaster Risk and Environmental Resilience

Environmental Sciences research areas include environmental hazards, disaster management, water science, and natural resource degradation. Together with the Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS’s disaster-related work, these areas support knowledge relevant to risk assessment and resilience planning.

07

Ecosystems and Climate Action

Jahangirnagar University’s biodiversity research and conservation education complement its climate-related work. Studies of campus wetlands and vegetation provide evidence that can inform habitat protection and environmentally sensitive campus planning.
