Gender Equality

Jahangirnagar University contributes to SDG 5: Gender Equality through gender-related teaching and research, student support services, and institutional mechanisms addressing sexual harassment. These activities provide a foundation for strengthening women’s participation, safety, and advancement in higher education.

Student Support and Academic Development

Jahangirnagar University’s Students Counselling and Guidance Centre provides psychosocial support, counselling, career guidance, and skills development activities. Its published services include individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and victim or survivor advocacy. These university-wide services offer support relevant to women navigating academic, personal, and professional challenges.

The university also publishes scholarship and financial assistance opportunities.

Preventing Sexual Harassment and Supporting Reporting

Jahangirnagar University maintains an official webpage for its Sexual Harassment Complaints Committee, including information defining sexual harassment. This provides an institutional reference point for addressing harassment within the university community.

Women in Academic Leadership

Published university faculty records document women’s service in academic and administrative leadership. For example, Professor Rasheda Akhtar’s profile records previous roles as Chairperson of Anthropology, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Director of the Students Counselling and Guidance Centre, and Convener of the Sexual Harassment Complaint Committee.     The university inaugurated its first women’s football tournament, organised by the Women’s Sports Society.

    The newly constructed Bir Protik Taramon Bibi Hall, a women’s residential hall, formally began operations.
