01

Water Research and Testing Facilities

The Department of Environmental Sciences reports an Environmental Research and Testing Laboratory and a Water Research Centre focused on wastewater treatment. Its research areas include water science, groundwater modelling, water pollution, aquatic chemistry, and water resources management. These facilities and research activities support scientific investigation of water-related challenges.

02

Water Quality and Pollution Research

Published faculty research examines water quality and metal pollution in the Ganges River, alongside water characteristics and heavy metal contamination in the Sangu–Matamuhuri rivers. Such studies contribute evidence relevant to identifying pollution sources and assessing environmental and health risks.

03

Wastewater Treatment and Remediation

University research includes wastewater treatment using aquatic plants, phytoremediation, and pollution mitigation. These approaches are relevant to reducing contaminants in water.

04

Education on Sustainable Water Management

Published teaching information includes Hydrology and Water Resource Management, Aquatic Ecology, Limnology and Oceanography, and Biomonitoring of Pollution. These subjects help students understand water systems, ecological processes, and approaches to monitoring environmental conditions.

05

Knowledge Sharing and External Cooperation

The Department of Environmental Sciences publishes journals that disseminate environmental research, providing channels for sharing water-related knowledge.
