Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Jahangirnagar University contributes to SDG 9 through scientific research facilities, technical education, applied research, and institutional partnerships. Scientific Research Infrastructure

The Wazed Miah Science Research Centre provides scientific research facilities for Jahangirnagar University researchers. Its published information describes shared instrumentation and research support that strengthen opportunities for experimental work and postgraduate training.

These facilities support research across scientific disciplines.

Applied Environmental Research

The Department of Environmental Sciences reports an Environmental Research and Testing Laboratory and a Water Research Centre focused on wastewater treatment. Its research areas include environmental biotechnology, renewable energy, pollution remediation, modelling, and monitoring—fields relevant to cleaner technologies and sustainable infrastructure.

Innovation and Intellectual Property

Jahangirnagar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bangladesh’s Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks in June 2026. This establishes a formal connection with the government institution responsible for intellectual property.

Academic and Professional Partnerships

The university’s August 2025 agreement with Lincoln University College, Malaysia, provides a framework for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, publications, training workshops, professional certification, and internships.

Research on Resilient Infrastructure

Published faculty information records involvement in a JICA–JST-supported project addressing building structural integrity in densely populated urban areas and resilient cities in Bangladesh. This work connects university expertise with practical infrastructure challenges.

Technical Training and Knowledge Transfer

The Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS provides skills development training, research, and knowledge sharing. Its geospatial expertise supports the analysis of environmental and socioeconomic challenges, offering tools relevant to planning and development.

  1. 26 May 2025

    The CSE student team Triptych was recognised for winning the university category of the PKI Hackathon at the Public Key Infrastructure Summit 2025.

  2. 14 May 2025

    Training on FT-IR, UV–Vis spectroscopy, and microscopy strengthened scientific instrumentation skills.

  3. 28 April 2025

    An Intellectual Property Rights training workshop was held for teachers.

  4. 31 January 2025

    A roadmap was announced for automating academic and administrative services, with the stated aim of reducing difficulties experienced by students and teachers.

  1. 31 December 2024

    The university signed an agreement with ShurjoPay.

  2. 12 November 2024

    A specialised laboratory complex at the Institute of Information Technology was inaugurated.

  3. 28 October 2024

    University students were recognised for first, third, and ninth places in an IEEE Xtreme 24-hour programming competition.

  4. 8 October 2024

    The keys to the new Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering departmental building were handed over.

  5. 26 September 2024

    University funding per research project increased from BDT 106,000 in 2023–2024 to BDT 145,000 in 2024–2025, an increase of BDT 39,000 per project.
